Bais Aharon V’Yisrael

RESETTLING AND REBUILDING THE KYIV JEWISH COMMUNITY IN ISRAEL

Bringing back the light

For close to 50 years, the Jews of the Ukraine suffered enormously behind the Iron Curtain.
In addition to the widespread poverty and corruption of the communist regime, they were robbed of their heritage and traditions.

Even after the fall of the Soviet Union, countless Ukrainian Jews knew virtually nothing of their religion or of G-d.

That is changing today, thanks to Bais Aharon V’Yisrael.

Due to the 2022 war between Russia and the Ukraine, the entire community has been evacuated and is currently living in temporary housing until they can be resettled in Tiberias, Israel.  The dedicated staff of Bais Aharon V’Yisrael are working tirelessly to accomplish this goal, but they need your assistance.

Who is Bais Aharon V’Yisrael?

A project of the Karliner Rebbe, Bais Aharon V’Yisrael is more than a fund; it is a lifeline for Ukrainian Jews.

Until February of 2022, Bais Aharon V’Yisrael ran a host of essential programs in Kyiv to support the Jewish community and foster its growth.  With your help, BAI will do the same for the Ukrainian Jewish refugees in Tiberias, Israel.  It is very important for the community to stay together for moral support and to facilitate a return to normal life; the BAI staff are doing everything possible to make this happen.

Kehillah: Community Support

The impact of Rabbi Zaltzman, leader of the Kehillah, and his team stretches far beyond the 100-family community in Kyiv. Hundreds more Jews from surrounding areas have come to rely on the services and support, provided with warmth and love.

Please note, all programs are in flux due to the rescue and resettlement of the community to Israel; with time and appropriate funding, programming will resume in Tiberias, Israel.

  • Jewish education and holiday programming
  • Weekly inspiration and delicious communal Shabbat meals, open to all
  • Medical assistance and funds for medications
  • Soup kitchen and food assistance
  • Financial assistance
  • Assistance with life cycle events: weddings, births, funerals

Schools & Institutions

In addition to boys and girls elementary schools, Bais Aharon V’Yisrael runs separate dormitories for orphaned boys and girls or those who could not live at home due to dysfunctional family situations. In the dormitories, the children receive:

  • A 24/7 safe, nurturing home
  • Warm, nourishing meals
  • Clean clothing
  • Toys and activities
  • Meaningful holiday celebrations
  • Support and unconditional loving care

Please note, due to the resettlement of the Ukrainian Jewish refugees in Israel, children are being placed into existing schools in Israel.  They will require a great deal of assistance in learning the language and acclimating to their new culture, as well as recovering from the trauma of leaving their homes under war conditions.
